Calcium Alginates
Alginate dressings are highly absorbent and biodegradable. Alginate dressings maintain a physiologically moist microenvironment that promotes healing and the formation of granulation tissue. Alginates can be rinsed away with saline irrigation, so removal of the dressing does not interfere with healing granulation tissue. This makes dressing changes virtually painless. Alginate dressings are very useful for moderate to heavily exudating wounds. Advanced Tissue carries a full-line of calcium alginate dressings, such as, Convetec's Aquacel and Aquacel Ag dressings, Johnson & Johnson's Nu-Derm and Silvercel dressings and Smith & Nephew's Algisite dressings.Collagens
Collagen products introduce sterile, freeze dried collagen into the wound site. In the presence of wound exudates, collagen forms a biodegradable gel that physically binds with healthy tissue and naturally occurring growth factors within the wound to foster rapid wound healing. Collagen products are appropriate for wounds with any degree of drainage. Advanced Tissue carries an array of collagen products, such as, Johnson & Johnson's Prisma and Promogran products and Southwest Technologies' Stimulen product.Foam Dressings
Foam dressings are manufactured as either polyurethane or silicone foam. They transmit moisture vapor and oxygen and provide thermal insulation to the wound bed. The major advantage of foam is the ability to contain exudate. Polyurethane foams prevent exterior leakage due to the presence of a semi-permeable backing. Silicone foams dressings protect the area around the wound from further damage. Foam dressings are indicated for wounds with medium to heavy exudate. Advanced Tissue supplies a complete line of foam dressings, such as, Coloplast's Biatain dressing, Ferris' Polymem Silver dressing, and Smith & Nephew's Allevyn dressings.Hydrocolloid Dressings
Hydrocolloids are a type of dressing containing gel-forming agents. In many products, these are combined with elastomers and adhesives and applied to a carrier to form an absorbent, self-adhesive, waterproof wafer. In the presence of wound exudate, hydrocolloids absorb liquid and form a gel, the properties of which are determined by the nature of the formulation. One feature of hydrocolloids that is appreciated by clinicians is wet tack; unlike most dressings, they can adhere to a moist site as well as a dry one. Hydrocolloid dressings are suitable for low to moderate exudate. Advanced Tissue carries a complete line of hydrocolloid dressings, such as, Convatec's Duoderm dressings and Johnson & Johnson's Nu-Derm Hydrocolloid dressings.Hydrogel Dressings
Hydrogels are popular because they are effective, comfortable, easy to use, and cost effective. These agents provide control of wound surface hydration, sometimes absorbing excess exudate and often providing moisture. Hydrogels have been proven effective in facilitating repair of pressure, diabetic, vascular, burn, and other wounds, and they have supplanted saline-moistened gauze for many applications. Hydrogels should be used with no to low drainage. Advanced Tissue?s extensive product offering includes Kendall's Curagel products and Xylos' X-Cell products.Wrap Dressings, Gauze Dressings and Tape
Advanced Tissue supplies a full complement of ancillary dressing products. These products include basic items such as gauze sheet and tape; specialty absorbent products such as ABD pads; compression products such as wraps and stockings; and advanced antimicrobial products such as gauze and wraps. For more information regarding Advanced Tissue's extensive line of wound care products, please complete the contact form or call us at 866.217.9900.
